Poppies succumb to 2nd defeat

It means new player-boss Lee Harper has suffered a second successive defeat after succumbing 1-0 to Hayes & Yeading who in the process secured their fifth win in a row in the League.

The 1-0 defeat at Rockingham Road on Tuesday night saw the Poppies surrendered third place to York City to stay fourth with 38 points from 21 games, a massive 11 points adrift of leaders Oxford United.

Having lost his first game in charge to Kidderminster at the weekend, Harper’s side failed to make chances pay before succumbing to a late goal.

Substitute Craig Watkins secured the points for Hayes by curling a right-footed shot past Harper from 12 yards.

Anthony Elding went close for the Poppies but his volley went wide.
