Ceesay, who is enjoying something of a renaissance under Coach Jan Ceulemans after a career threatened injury, played the whole minutes of the game but his blistering pace wasn’t enough to rescue something for Westerlo.
Anderlecht took a 34th minute lead through Lukaku before they caught Westerlo on the break in search of the equalizer for their second and the winner through Frutos in the 81st minute.
The defeat saw Westerlo dropped to 11th on the 16 team table with 22 points from 18 games, 5 points adrift of Ebrima Sawaneh’s 6th place KV Kortrijk who were also 2-0 winners at newly promoted Sint Truident.
Kortrijk took an early 3rd minute goal through Lea Benko before Benteke made sure of the three points in stoppage time but the Gambian international remained on the sidelines with an injury.
A level below in the lower echelons of Belgian football, Abdou Jammeh’s SK Lierse maintained their gripped at the top of the 19 team standings with an impressive 3-1 victory at Red Star Waasland.
Mustapha Toubabo Jarju’s RAEC Mons jumped upto to 4th, five points off the pace with a 1-0 victory at Oostende. Toubabo came on with 6 minutes remaining but Jammeh was only good enough for the substitute’s bench.
