Fifth bookings of the season for Chris Robertson and Nicky Wroe at Bournemouth this week may have seen the Gulls duo suspended for Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Brighton, but the disciplinary pressure is off for the rest of Torquay United’s squad.
This season the Football Association has brought forward the ‘five-card cut-off’ point for automatic suspension from February to December 31.
Robertson and Wroe couldn’t quite make it, but several other United players will be breathing sighs of relief.
Kieran Charnock, Lee Mansell and goalkeeper Michael Poke all have four cautions against their names.
Central defender Charnock has been walking a tightrope for several weeks now, and he’s done well to survive the last eight games without picking up another booking.
The next cut-off point is Sunday, April 11, when any player with ten bookings is automatically banned for two matches.
