Sumare Touray is a 20 year old Gambian who can play both on the left and right sides of midfield as well as a more advance role currently playing for Spanish lower league side Parafrugell.
Gambia’s eternal nemesis Senegal has followed the youngster on several occasions to play for their junior teams but the lad decided to turn them down on every attempt by the Teranga Lions with an eye firmly set on putting on the red shirt of the Scorpions.
Son of Hamed Touray from the Upper River Region in Basse, Sumare Touray was born in the Spanish city of Barcelona and his talents didn’t go unnoticed as he is already linked with moves to one of Spain’s elite teams.
In an exclusive interview with Gambia Sports Online, both Sumare Touray and his father cannot wait for the Gambia football authorities to invited the lad come and play for the team with an eye firmly set on the 2012 Olympic team as a starting point.
“I was born in Spain but I am still a Gambian hence my parents are from the African country. Senegal have followed me on several occasions to play for them but I turned them down in favour of the Gambia even though I am yet to be contacted by them [the GFA]” Sumare Touray said.
“I didn’t make the decision for him” his father Hamed Touray added, “he said it is his dream to one day play for the Gambia and nowhere else and I would be happy for him to realise his dreams of playing for the Gambia” Hamed Touray told www.gambiasports.gm.
